I just got back from a short vacation yesterday. Kate's dad came to visit for a little over a week.
Last weekend we dragged him off to Bluesfest (thanks, Ron!), then from Monday to Friday he dragged us off to Algonquin Park. We rented a canoe from Algonquin Outfitters (not a bad web site, but then you click on "rates" and have to go to a big-ass PDF...annoying...). Instead of the very popular Highway 60 corridor, we headed up to the north end. It's almost to North Bay, and the turn off is just after Deux Riveires, then another hour along a gravel road. In total, it takes 4 hours from Ottawa.
So, once in the wilderness, we made a base camp on Monday and then paddled around exploring. Massive amounts of wildlife -- two moose, I caught a couple of smallmouth bass on separate days, fried up some freshwater clams, a giant turtle, a baby catfish, loons, merganzer ducks and ducklings, chipmunks, frogs, lots of dragonflies, etc. etc. etc. Yes, I am very behind in posting pictures. Still have 300 or so from the Canada Day long weekend to post...
I didn't do much today, although I do have a big "to do" list that Kate and I have to get done.
