Still sick

I've been sick with the flu since last Saturday night. It really is a lot of fun. I broke down and went to the doctor on Wednesday, after I tried calling Ontario's "tele-health" number in the morning.

As I suspected, though, the doctor couldn't do much more for me, other than to confirm that yes, it is the flu, that yes, plenty of bed rest and lots of fluids is the way to treat it. Oh, and by the way, it usually takes 7 - 10 days to pass, sometimes longer.

So, I've had aches and pains, plus the usual sweats and chills, plus a wicked headache, for the past 6 days. The doctor prescribed some tylenol hyped up with codeine, but all that seems to do is send me into a daze, after which I almost seem to get a drug hangover.

My current solution is Life brand Cold and Flu, both the "Day" and "Night" formulas. Day seems to be slightly less effective with my headache, but doesn't zonk me out completely like "Night". My fever seems to gone today, so perhaps I am on the mend.

Yuk... the flu is never fun! I had it earlier this year and had to miss a week of work. Drink lots of OJ!

You seem to have it figured out, Graham. I think everyone has their own special way how to beat the flu. Mine is not to get it in the first place! (...although I keep my fingers crossed and wash my hands after touching sick kids)

There are three things I do to wreak havoc on a Flu. I had the Flu in early January and got rid of it in 3 days, I kid you not.

The three universal secrets to fighting a flue that will be forever entrenched in common knowledge for centuries to come are ... whoa... Internet connection cutting out... getting fuzzy... fire alarm.... people with wings... ugh...

No, really:

- Neo Citron or equivalent Store-brand. This stuff will smack any kind of cold or flu into the nether realm. I actually recall waking up and feeling like I had no flu during the second day, after a night of this stuff, even though later in the day it was worse than anything.

- Eat lots. Feed the cold, feed the fever. Works on the flu very well. Get some Campbells Chicken Noodle soup, add a couple eggs when it's boiling, stir and chop them up, high protein, incredibly filling with crackers. It's delicious as well.

- Chewable Vitamine C. Let it dissolve in the mouth, kills any virii in it and down the throat.

- Ok, four tips. Fourth - don't get lots of sleep. Get an hour more than you usually get, but don't nap, don't throw off your sleeping clock, don't Sleep much more than normal. Oversleeping even a small amount of time can be bad, so an hour extra is fine, but 3 hours or more is a waste.

Do those four things, especially the Neo-C before going to bed, and eating lots, and you will open a can of whoopass on that Flu.

Good luck.
