I am sitting here on Monday night drinking a glass of Tropicana Tropics - Orange Strawberry Banana flavour. It tastes absolutely vile. Weird...that link says it is only available in Canada. Mmmm...a smaller market to dump stuff into? I'm drinking it because a) it's not water and b) if it tastes this bad, it must be good for me. Kate bought it because her cousin liked it.
My mind is whirring. As a result of some recent interesting discussions, I've been thinking a lot about social software, social networks. It's a "hot" topic amongst bloggers right now, partly because blogging itself is seen as a form of social software, especially the interconnections and multi-threaded conversations it creates.
Blecch! That's the sound that goes through my head with every sip.
This morning Kate and I started a new gym routine. We've switched to the Downtown YMCA for the summer, because it has air conditioning. The current plan is to do weights three times a week. Plus my Ultimate games on Fridays, plus hopefully at least one practice or pick-up game per week. The big heat of summer hasn't hit yet. It's currently doing the Vancouver thing and raining steadily, although it's not cold.
This evening, the planning for Papier Mache Monkey began. Troy and I went over to 317 Lyon and sketched out some plans. My initial idea of a giant monkey (basically, cover an entire garbage can in chicken wire, then place a big head -- plus Fez hat -- on top) got vetoed for a smaller, more manageable version. Our monkey will perch on the lid of the garbage can, and will in fact be fastened to the lid. Which has a hole in it so the hose and pump can fit through. For the beer keg, naturally. What? Oh, well we have this team for the Relay for Cancer called the "Flying Monkeys" (it was a write-in winner, I swear!), plus there is the Gender Blender tournament. Don't know if that's actually going to happen or not.
So, I bought a big Rubbermaid garbage can, the kind with the wheels. Careful measurement determined that a keg will fit inside, unlike regular, small cans. Plus a roll of chicken wire. Next step is sculpting the monkey out of wire (mainly Troy) and cutting up lots and lots of paper.

YMCA
Last year I switched from YMCA to TruForm (near Bank and Somerset). I find it quieter, friendlier, less crowded, and more efficient than either the downtown or metro YMCA. There is air conditioning and there are no teenaged clients so far. Plus it's way cheaper (under $35 per month for the yearly rate, including free towels, and no community improvement fee up front like the Y). To be fair, there is no swimming pool or squash court, there aren't as many classes as at the Y, the facility is much smaller, and there is a high ratio of personal trainers to customers. But it's worth checking out to see if you like it (they offered me a free trial workout).
Tastes bad = good for you

I am not surprised that mustard pancake man does not enjoy them, but I assure you that this is not the only thing that is good for you :p

Mustard on pancakes
It's just that I don't really like pancakes, and I don't really like syrup, either, but I do like mustard, so....
