Mini PC, Mini Hi-Fi look.

Somewhere on this page (just below the mobo picture) is a picture of a new computer from MSI done up to look almost exactly like a mini-Hi-Fi system receiver. Very interesting. A shame to see Apple missing this boat, when it should have been remarkably obvious for them when they came up with the digital Hub concept to take it one step further.

V. cool MSI box

Here's the image, which links to the article:

OK, I was just thinking about how I have to do some switches with the boxes I have kicking around my house. Obviously, my Multimedia PC will wait until something like this comes out. I very much like that BIOS can handle all the audio-only stuff -- will only need to boot for doing video, etc.

Apple is very much a computer company -- I wouldn't say "missed the boat", because the companies that make these PC-based boxes are still only shipping to the enthusiast market -- they are not mass-market machines. Major computer manufacturers have shipped "multimedia" PCs, but most have been centered around the concept of "watch TV on your computer". With XP Multimedia Edition still in its infancy, and strict licensing/approval requirements (MSI can't just go buy copies of it and ship with their products), the features/functionality of these boxes are up to the end user to setup and configure.

Another mini system.

Not a Mini Hi-Fi look, but still mini.
