Wouldn't it be great to be able to subscribe to an RSS feed of weather readings?
Ideally, there would be several different feeds, from a light, text-only version with just latest temperature and conditions, to a full blown current plus forecast plus humidity plus icons etc. etc.
Perhaps even a listing of "local" webcams with pictures of current conditions.
Hmmm...I'm going to do some work on figuring out RSS and what kind of information could/should be included.
As I had mentioned when I tried to get Environment Canada to offer such a service, an extra-cool feature would be supporting TrackBacks/referrers so that you could see the comments/blog entries that people were making about the weather -- certainly something that people in Canada are likely to do. This would require a centralized server to host the RSS feeds and the comments around them.

Environment Canada publishes in XML
I've been looking for something similar, and as it turns out, Environment Canada now publishes XML -- check out http://dd.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/EC_sites/xml/

RSS feed would of course be great for sticking on a web page. But there is at least one terrific windows desktop app that's been around for a while, that synchs with the Environment Canada forecast, using the XML feed I believe. It's called Mr. Weather: http://www.mrweather.ca. It should be pretty feasible to write something that would take the XML feed and then generate its own RSS feed from that.

WEATHER RSS
Since moving to SouthWest Indiana i unknowingly also postioned my residence in what is also frequently referred to as TORNADO ALLEY!
Is is ABSOLUTELY paramount to have Immediate uninterrupted RSS access to breaking weather data 24/7 and 365. I make my case that just on Nov 6 and AGAIN! on Nov 15 of all times of the year, there were F4 strength Tornadoes that created serious civil emergencies and loss of life. Just on New Years Day! we had yet another Tornado Watch issued from the National Weather Service out of Norman, Oklahoma that fortunately didn't produce this time, but i lay odds many more are to come this Spring.
I have a RSS Reader positioned on my Blog but i need a dependable feed to keep people and myself abreast of these type conditions.
My gratitude for taking an interest in these matters, believe me YOU may very well SAVE LIVES in doing so. Thanks Again. Joseph

DIY weather feed: use Wotzwot HTML2RSS service
I created my own advert-free weather feed using http://www.wotzwot.com and scraping Environment Canada's pages. You only need to specify a few "landmarks" to wotzwot and it returns a well-formed RSS feed whenever you link it. Here's my Mississauga weather URL:
http://www.wotzwot.com/rssxl.php?pageurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftext.weatheroffice...
[that wrapped a lot--dunno if it will work for you w/o editing.]
Re: RSS Weather
Sure. I'm looking specifically for a Canadian Weather Warning RSS feed, really clean and neat and tidy. One line only. Just say
"Winter Storm Warning issued for Edmonton-and surrounding areas at 8:10PM MST January 9, 2004. Quickly dropping temperatures, blowing snow are expected throughout the next ## hours. "
Not any of those "This weather data is provided by the NOAA and Environment Canada, rssweather.com and Hamweather.com. Please click ....."
My RSS reader only gives me the first line of any RSS XML page, so that one line is important. It will display that either on a popup on the screen or displayed on my 2X16 Character LCD.,
I wish that would happen. I just don't like the advertisement line at the top of a feed for the above mentioned reason.
rss reader
Trent310,
Can you give me some details on your rss lcd reader? Where you got it, or how you made it?
thanks

Excellent idea. As we speak, I'm searching for an RSS or somewhat parse-able weather site for my town, in Newfoundland & Labrador. I'll definately be checking back...
Re: RSS Weather
This sounds really intereseting and might relate to a project that I am working upon. I am trying to get a Director/Shockwave application to read in live data, in order to create strange images / animations. The type of data that I think might work best is weather data and I was also thinking of trying to include some webcam images as well.
