Asterisk on OS X?

VersionTracker: Asterisk - CVS 10-28-03

VersionTracker had the CVS release of Asterisk show up in the RSS feed that I read. I admit, I never really considered Asterisk on the Mac platform. Scott points out that Asterisk just posted their first 1.0 RC. I guess you could use an external interface rather one of the internal Digium products: they do have the IAXy.

Update: OK, this is definitely an OS X version of Asterisk, since some AppleScripts for managing it also got released. The company behind this is Sunrise Telephone Systems, based out of Japan. They have some impressive GUI config screenshots for OS X up ("Macsterisk"). Now I'm excited!

Asterisk and OS X

I have tried loading Asterisk on my Mac 10.3.7 and then run the scripts. The scripts won't start Asterisk. I started looking into this a little more and the scripts expect the application to be in /usr/sbin. When I look in that directory I can't find any Asterisk programs. I can open the install package and see the different files and subdirectors but am unsure where they would all go.

Asterisk 1.0 - OSX

FYI -- You can build Asterisk 1.0 on OS-X, but it won't run...

(Dies in poll.c -- still researching why)

Asterisk Assistant for OSX (pre-release)

Thanks for the thumbs up.

The GUI tools you have seen screenshots of will still take a little while before they are ready. Yet with so much interest, we decided to get something out of the door earlier and chose the Setup Assistant format as a way to do so.

I thought you might be interested in the OSX assistant for adding new extensions and phones, a *pre-release* of which we have put up for donwload here ...

http://www.astmasters.net/stuff/AsteriskAssistant.zip

There will shortly be two more such assistants, one for setting up FWD and another for Voicepulse Connect. I am also working on turning a separate launching utility into an OSX preference pane to start/stop asterisk. All this will be released as open source under the GPL and bundled together with an OSX build of * 1.0RC1 into a new OSX install package.

PS: The contact form on your website is broken. I tried several browsers under OSX and Linux, also from a Wintel box in an internet cafe. It always says "The form could not be processed due to the following errors: Error: E-Mail address error: SMTP Info: 501 Unknown command".

Thanks for the long and informative comment. I've been a bit of an "absentee landlord" due to some problems with my site, but I'm back now. You can reach me at borismann@gmail.com if you want to get in touch directly.

I'll be monitoring progress with this -- looks great!
