Vonage.ca - Trying another Canadian VoIP Option

I'm filling out the Vonage contact page to ask about switching my phone number to them. The contact page is pretty smart -- it asks you to select your General Topic (Sales) then displays some specific questions (I want to transfer my phone number) and then gives me a textarea to put in more info. We'll see what Vonage says when they find out it is a Talkbroadband number. Do LNP rules apply? I'm about to find out…

Kate is now using my T616, so we can ditch Primus Talkbroadband. That is, my use of VoIP will be primarily for experimentation and research. I'll talk more about my recent experiences with Talkbroadband soon (here's the short form: the service got really bad).

The big thing I'm looking forward to is voicemail-via-email and a softphone (yeah, I think that one is my only choice I think).

sorry I forgot to put this in.

Uvoipia has voicemail-via-email as a basic feature and can help you configure your number on a softphone. I did that and I use my laptop when I am out of the office to make calls, particularly international ones for the cost savings.

Primus Talkbroadband

Primus Talkbroadband provides voicemail-via-email and a softphone, you have to log into your "Portal" , and forward voicemail to your e-mail. I do agree instructions and communication with Primus could improve. However it is lot cheaper overall.

Vonage experience

I've been using Vonage for about a month - I'm on Rogers in Toronto. The voice quality incoming and outgoing has been consistently excellent. On a couple of occasions the voicemail indicator and related voicemail notification services have not worked for a few days, but that has been small potatoes. I'm now giving out the number to my clients as my main business number (I'm a tech lawyer, so the optics of having a VOIP phone is also kind of important for me from a marketing perspective).

So far, so good.

Vongae experience

It all looks good till u want to get another phone company. Make sure u cancel the vonage acct. vonage has it in lic. agreement that you must cancel the phone and not the other provider like vonage does..Iv been billed for 2 months service with no service because i didnt call it in. The other company called it in and told them they were taking over the account. Not good enough for vongage. Also u have a year contract with vonage that has a cancellation fee of 49.00. Which was also in very fine print. ITs a terrible connection..no lines out sometimes..Make sure u read the fine print before signing up. My opinion.. JJust another get rich company off the internet . Cost me 100 to cancel with no service for 2 months.. U be the judge..

Vonage.ca

We have been using Vonage for our small business in Canada and the US for over 6 months now. It works amazing. We have normal cable internet service. Perhaps 2% of the calls experience static and I can usually tell when I am dialing so I just redial and it all works fine.
