Place the onion in the bottom of an ovenproof pot or roasting pan. Take half the lemon, peel it, and slice it in thin wheels. Juice the other half of the lemon. Arrange the chicken pieces on top of the onions and tuck the garlic cloves and lemon slices around them. Drizzle the chicken with a little olive oil, then sprinkle the spices on, pour in the soy sauce, and add the parsley. Add a 1/2 cup of the white wine and the fresh lemon juice.
Broil the chicken uncovered, 15 minutes on each side or until lightly browned. Add the remaining cup of wine, cover the pot with a snug-fitting lid, and cook for an additional hour.
