Boris Mann grew up in BC, living on Bowen Island, which is situated in Howe Sound and is just 15 minutes from Vancouver by ferry.
Back in 1993 - 1994, he sailed around the world on the S/V Concordia as part of the Class Afloat program. He still hasn't gotten around to digitizing all his slides, but you can read a little about the trip.
When he came back, he flipped a coin between going to cooking school and going to school. School won, and Boris eventually ended up at UVic.
Turns out biology isn't all about swimming with dolphins, so the Computer Science Co-op program (thanks, Toni!) is where he landed. After a few successful school and work terms, he even managed to graduate at the tail end of the millenium.
In January of 2000, Boris and Kate moved to the frigid cold of Canada's capitol, Ottawa. Boris spent two years working for Nortel, then got some t-shirts made: "I survived 6 rounds of lay-offs at Nortel -- I can't be completely useless!". Somehow, Boris got it into his head to start his own company. After two years of that, it was time to head back to BC, close to family and a friendlier climate.
Boris still likes cooking, plays Ultimate and disc golf, and likes going camping and other such travel adventures.
