Links of Interest

Sunday afternoon link-o-rama

It seems like Sunday afternoons are better for linking than thinking.

Linkies

Yep, it's link roundup time. I have stuff that needs posting over on the personal site, too.

  • My dad left for his pilgrim's walk today, and came by the office first. Kris took a picture. Yep, he's got a blog.
  • The XBox 360, a.k.a. XBox 2, is coming out soon. Scott talks about backwards compatility. I've been tempted to get an XBox 1 to act as media center, due to it's extreme hackability. Will version 2 also be hack-friendly?
  • I read Fraser Speirs' ideas around Neutrino XML with interest. Then I reallized it was pretty much OPML. And of course, I already have the borisphere.
  • Fred does a great job talking about the benefits of LinkedIn.
  • Kris lent me Firefly on DVD and I was hooked, so I'm looking forward to the Serenity movie. Could this be a way to re-launch the series?
  • The Canon S2 IS, the successor to my S1, just got released. Evan was sitting on the fence for quite some time, this might push him over to buy it. Heck, I'm thinking of giving my S1 to Richard for services rendered and getting it myself. Only annoying bit: they changed the memory card format from Compact Flash to SD, and I have quite a few CF cards already.
  • Jeffie is building Drupal stuff and making fun of Dries -- "I am slowly getting a clearer picture of what a demented little monkey Dries is"

Aside: is some of this stuff "personal" and shouldn't be here? I'm really bad at keeping my life in little boxes scattered all over the place...

Links of Interest: March 20, 2004

I don't do these very often, but I really do need to point a handful of things out before they age too much:

  • Todd Sieling's holycola.net - Wiki critics: Todd, this was an awesome round-up post of everything it means to be wiki. Lots of great quotes, I probably like this one best: "A given technology won't work like it's supposed to unless it's used like it's supposed to be used!"
  • Gnomedex registration is open: it's in Seattle, and Julie is going to be there. But the big question...do I get to play with the kids again if I go? Also on tap for afterwards: Bowen Island FamilyCon? We'll see on both counts...
  • Nokia Lifeblog: OK, it's installed on my new phone...but it doesn't seem to work. I set up the details for it to work with Flickr, but pictures never actually show up in the Lifeblog app. I haven't read any docs yet, but shouldn't this just work?
  • Kris Krug - Vancouver BeerCasting at Subeez on March 16, 2005: there are so many things I need to be saying about Kris. He's been "embedded" in our office for the last couple of weeks. He put on a BeerCast that I attended, and ended up talking about Reality TV (direct MP3 link). Kris is also doing interesting things with Event Blogging -- he did a fantastic job covering Northern Voice, and now he's experimenting with audio as well. Any event you need photographed, blogged, or recorded, Kris is your guy. Actually, I just talked to Shayne at Coastal Trek about having Kris do photography work. I probably have more reasons to throw props Kris' way, but just want to say: been great having you around so far.

Links of Interest: December 12, 2004

These are my links of interest, remaindered links, link-list, whatever you want to call it. They've been sitting as open tabs in NNW for far too long. Which leads to a request: a script for NNW that takes all the open tabs and pastes the link for them into a new post in the associated blog editor.
