hyperstruct left a comment announcing the developer preview release of this Firefox 1.5 plugin. It enables "real time social browsing" with an integrated Jabber IM client. Every URL creates a separate chatroom, so you can IM to other people that are viewing the same page as you.
I haven't tried it out yet, since I haven't upgraded to Firefox 1.5 yet. Soon!

Very Cool
That's really cool! I installed it but so far haven't seen any other users on any websites. But the idea is definitely original and a good one at that. I'll leave it on for awhile...these things probably take time to gather momentum.

I'd be surprised...
I'd be surprised if the idea were new, I mean the "web page as web place" took a very small leap of imagination once I stuffed the IM client into the sidebar.
It's got a long way to go before being full featured or widely adopted, but I'm happy to say that at least a couple of friends are having good fun with it. ;-)
Anyway, I'm on the http://www.bmannconsulting.com/tags/firefox "place" for a while (modulo lunch) if anyone wants to chat.
Others?
Lloyd pinged me today and mentioned that there might be a few other similar services. Since they all use Jabber, they really should interoperate. Would be neat if it just integrated with your "regular" IM client in some way.
Lloyd, want to link slap me with the other apps?
