Lab Day

The first two days of Local-First Conf 2026 are single track talks with a couple of panels thrown in. The third day is Lab Day, dedicated to being interactive. We’ll have a couple of talks from the Ink & Switch team to start the day, right after lunch, and a few words to close things off.

The rest of the day will have some planned lightning talks & discussion groups, demos, and even a few special hands on experiences. There will be a room dedicated for mini code workshops, and an open hacking area where people can gather

The lab is working on a few hands on experiences.

Make your own notebook

At team summits over the years, we’ve brought along the supplies for making small, handmade, pocketable paper notebooks. Different papers, custom stamps, and other supplies as a memento and a tool. We brought this along for Sync Conf community day, and now we’re bringing it to Lab Day, at a slightly larger scale.

Fun fact: When we first brought up the idea to the Local-First Conf organizers, half of them pulled out their own past notebooks from their desk or bag. So great to see that people hang on to them!

We’ll have a dedicated space for notebook making, which you can drop into for a guided session with folks from the lab to help you out, or pick up your notebook package and take it home to construct locally.

The other two physical demos we’ll keep a secret for a while longer. One involves a Folk Computer like experience with Automerge, and the other involves knitting.
